It’s often easy to forget that certain fruits and vegetables aren’t in season all year round. With food being transported quickly across the world to fill up our supermarkets, it becomes harder to know when things are in season or not. You don’t need to grow a vegetable garden to make the most of seasonal veg, but having an idea of what’s in season is important for both your health and the planet!
Why Eat In Season?
Seasonal foods are fresher and usually taste better since they’re picked when they are ripe as opposed to being picked weeks early and ripening on their way to your local supermarket. Not being subject to long distances also makes them much friendlier to the environment. As for health benefits, food grown in the correct season is more nutritionally dense and are typically available in more abundance, meaning that they cost a lot less. There’s also something quite exciting about embracing a new season and new culinary possibilities!
