If you haven’t tried reiki yet then read on, we’ve put together a quick guide to give you the low down and explain why we think you should give it a try.

What is Reiki?
Reiki is a practise originating from Japan which is used to unblock stagnant energy and bring your body and mind back into balance. Rei means ‘universal’ and ‘ki’ refers to the energy that runs through all living things, also referred to as “life force”. So essentially it’s a universally guided life force which is used for healing.
How Does It Work?
The Reiki practitioner will channel this life force energy through their hands onto the client to help unblock stagnant energy in areas that cause dis-ease in the body. The practitioner receives the healing reiki energy directly from a Reiki Master in an Attunement ceremony where dissonant energy is released from the practitioner, allowing them to attune to a more natural frequency. This is done using Reiki Master symbols and once received, the reiki practitioner will remain attuned to frequency of reiki energy. By working to unblock your stagnant and blocked energy pathways, reiki can help you get to the root of what does and doesn’t work for your body.
What To Expect From a Reiki Session

Reiki sessions last for about an hour and while it’s good to try it if you’re not feeling 100%, whether that be from physical aches and pains or mental disturbances such as anxiety or fatigue, you can also book a session even if you don’t have any particular intentions as reiki practitioners can explore your energy and maybe find some interesting things. It’s advisable to bring up any particular areas you want to address so that the practitioner can connect to it during the session. Reiki can also be practised from a distance via a virtual session where the practitioner may use a surrogate in place of a physically present client (find out more about that later).
What Are The Benefits of Reiki?
After a reiki session you are likely to feel deeply relaxed with a sense of clarity and awareness. Each persons cells vibrate at a preferred frequency in order to maintain homeostasis. If you remember from science class, atoms that make up all matter are never immobile but in fact are continually bouncing back and forth, creating waves. The body loses it’s ability to maintain homeostasis when the lines of communication are disrupted. By allowing reiki energy, the Universal frequency, to be channelled back into the body, you help that body to return to its natural state.
“Reiki is truly a very calming and restorative treatment. During my first session I was almost instantly relaxed and I experienced visions or a gentle white glow as I lay with my eyes closed. There was a definite shift in energy, similar to what you might feel after a physical massage.” – Samantha, Reiki practitioner.
